Kennel Cough

For worried dog owners concerned about infectious bronchitis,

commonly known as kennel cough, a vaccine is available and we

advise you to immunise your dog. The disease is rife at the moment.

Kennel cough causes symptoms of severe coughing and breathlessness

as well as high temperatures, sore throats and loss of appetite.

In worse cases (such as in young or elderly dogs) it can cause severe

and prolonged disease and may even be associated with death. Even

in young healthy dogs it can cause weeks of coughing and malaise.

Kennel cough is highly contagious, and is easily spread amongst dogs

whenever they get together such as in kennels, shows, and training

classes or in the park. The vaccine is administered intra-nasally and

the immunity lasts for 12 months. Reputable kennels now make the

vaccine another prerequisite in order to admit your dog because when dogs are kept close

by one another they can rapidly transmit this infection.
